I loved reading this account of the early life of our future president.
I was impressed with his telling of his intimate interactions with relatives and friends and associates.They rang true for me because I have had the same sort of ambivalent feelings myself. I was impressed with his kindness and his understanding of different people's situations and why they behaved as they did.
His job as president is hugely complex but he has the intellect and insight into human behavior that makes me hopeful for his leadership

I just finished reading this book and recommend it to anyone! I found myself relating to so many stories and ideas that Obama presents. I had many discussions with friends that were sparked by ideas presented in this book. This book offers a great perspective on who Obama is and where he came from. It is superbly written and an emotional journey.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Rating: - A terrific Obama keepsake treasure
I had read Obama's book "Audacity of Hope" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I did not feel the need to read this one until I heard on the radio that there was a "Book on CD, with Obama himself as the narrator".
This was the first Book on CD I've ever heard and what a terrific start.
It's simply fabulous, and in my opinion, a must read for everyone, young or old. Makes me feel really proud to have voted for Obama. There's a lot to learn from this CD. An incredible life journey of a man from very humble beginnings. We should all be so proud that he had such great human beings as his parents and grand parents.
I learnt many lessons on parenting from reading this. This CD should be heard in Middle and High schools.

This book is thoughtful and insightful.
It is so deep that at one point, when he takes a woman out to the theater, the exchange that takes place when he takes her home, in that moment, he became for me, a real life "Mr. Darcy".

perhaps only those who have experienced some degree of prejudice will truly appreciate this ? It is a revealing portion of the life of Obama. He is a good writer and from this you can learn he is INDEED a good "organizer"...got a used car you need selling ??!!
